Your birth experience can affect how you bond with your baby, your child’s personality, the relationship you have with your body and your thoughts on having more children. It can also be a factor in developing postnatal depression. That’s why your birth experience is so important.
Midwives do such an amazing job and are often very busy so you may not be able to see the same midwife through out your pregnancy and birth. A doula offers that consistency of support and will be there throughout the entire birth with you.
Whether you prefer a drug free home birth or a hospital birth with pain relief it is your choice and you will be supported.
Whether you decide to breastfeed or bottle feed you will be supported and helped with any problems that may arise.
Your partner will be supported too. The role of a doula is not to replace your partner but to take away some of the worry and pressure so they can in turn support you. A doula can facilitate communication between you, your partner and the medical staff. |
